Is The Fitbit Versa 2 Waterproof?

Everyone loves waterproof devices because of the extra freedom and functionality that it offers. However, not all gadget manufacturers are capable of designing waterproof products. Instead, they create water-resistant products, which do not give the same extra freedom and functionality as waterproof products. However, Fitbit is a top-rated gadget manufacturer with some water-resistant and waterproof devices in its line-up.

Today, we are going to be reviewing one of their flagship products, Fitbit Versa 2, and revealing if it is actually waterproof or simply water-resistant. Keep reading to find out.

Overview

Fitbit is one of the biggest manufacturers of fitness products for both individuals and families, and all of their products are technically water-resistant to a reasonable extent. However, this doesn’t make them waterproof. There is a clear difference between water-resistant and waterproof.

You must note the difference between both devices before proceeding with this piece. While water-resistant devices can resist damage from minimal contact with water, waterproof devices will not get damaged when soaked in water. Depending on the water-resistant rating on your device, you may be able to dip it in some amount of water. For example, if your watch is rated 10 BAR / 10 ATM, it means that it is suitable for swimming, while the 20 BAR / 20 ATM is just okay for swimming and snorkelling. However, if it is rated 30 BAR / 30 ATM, then it can withstand the pressures from high-impact sports like saturation diving and scuba diving

20 BAR / 20 ATMSwimming and Snorkelling
30 BAR / 30 ATMScuba Diving, Saturation Diving

Here's everything we know about the water-resistance capabilities of the Fitbit Versa 2.

Fitbit Versa 2: Waterproof or Water-resistant?

Well, the Fitbit Versa 2 is not truly waterproof. Like most gadgets, this wearable device is only water-resistant to a certain depth. After testing, the Fitbit Versa 2 has only been water-resistant up to 50 meters, which gives it a rating of 5 BAR. This means that you can take a shower with it, and maybe play around in the water, have some fun at the beach, but you do not want to take your Fitbit Versa 2 snorkelling or diving.

You do want to be careful though because hot showers can potentially cause the watch to expand a tiny bit, which could compromise the water-resistant seal. So yeah, don't take this watch anywhere close to a sauna.

Another way of measuring the water-resistance level of a gadget like the Fitbit Versa 2 is with the IP (Ingress Protection) rating. This rating is an International Standard that tells you how much a machine is waterproof.

When a device is rated IPX5 or IPX6, it can withstand a fair amount of soaking in water. This means you can swim with it, sweat on it, and let water spill on it without fear of damage. But this doesn't make the device protected against full immersion.

The truth is that the Fitbit Versa 2 hasn't been officially assigned an IP rating. As a result, it's quite difficult to tell how waterproof it is to water damage. However, Fitbit has formally announced that wearers can swim with this watch.

What Can You Do With The Fitbit Versa 2?

It's essential to remember that the Fitbit Versa 2 is a high-quality wearable device with a great design and impressive features. Most of these features can be accessed whether the watch is dry or wet.

They include;

  • Tracking laps, distance, and duration of your swimming workouts.
  • Track time during sweaty gym workouts
  • Track your vitals
  • Perform guided workouts
  • SmartTrack

The Fitbit Versa 2 is designed to have powerful features and state-of-the-art tracking capabilities. As a result, this watch will tell you exactly how your last workout went. The SmartTrack part is customizable automation that tracks the statistics of your choice on any activity. For instance, when jogging, you can set up the parameters you wish to follow, such as duration, number of steps, etc.

As you would expect of any top-rated watch in this category, there are powerful sensors on this device. These built-in sensors help users to keep track of almost anything, including how well you sleep at night, and the number of hours you slept. The Fitbit’s sleep tracking feature is one of the best I have ever seen in any smartwatch. It even goes as far as telling you how deeply you slept and allows you to set sleeping goals. However, you'll need to connect to a smartphone to get the full range of capabilities.

It also boasts an accelerometer to track linear acceleration or deceleration. Using this sensor, it's possible to track the number of steps you have made during the day.

There's also a gyroscope which can be very important underwater because it constantly keeps track of orientation. It doesn't matter how you go into the water; the gyroscope will tell you how far you've gone and the right way up. What's more? You'll find an HRM that tracks your heart rate during workouts and while relaxed.

The Fitbit Versa 2 also has a pulse oximeter to measure the oxygen content in the blood. This feature can help you monitor your health if you are asthmatic and working out or dealing with COPD (Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease).

What Can't You Do With The Fitbit Versa 2?

Don't Shower With It

Unless this is the type of shower you take before getting into a pool or ocean, it's not advisable to wear the Fitbit Versa 2. Yes, the watch may be capable of dealing with the water, but soap and other showering agents may eat away at the materials of the eye.

Don't Wear A Wrong Band Size

When shopping for a Fitbit watch, it's expected that you choose the size of the band that suits your wrist. Take note that the type of band you buy will add to the watch's water resistance. The watch will be encased in the wristband, and all parts must fit your hand tightly to avoid any leakage of water.

When the band is too big, it may cause water droplets to leak through and damage the watch

Final Thoughts

Finally, we're at the end of this piece. So, is the Fitbit Versa 2 waterproof? From the information we have reviewed above, it's safe to say that it's not waterproof, however, it is highly water-resistant, and should be a good fit for your daily activities.

This high-quality watch doesn't have a waterproof IP rating but performs relatively well as a water-resistant device. The Fitbit Versa 2 will allow you to do almost anything and everything with your watch as long as you don't go deeper than 50 meters. However, make sure to take care of this watch.

First of all, don't drop it on the floor. Also, avoid spilling perfumes, oils, deodorants, soaps, insect repellents, shampoos, and conditioners.  And remember not to use this band for high-velocity water activities.
